Seeking a detail oriented, fundamentally sound accountant to fill a Senior Accounting role with one of Chicago's most stable insurance businesses. This hybrid opportunity offers excellent exposure to senior leadership across a publicly traded, Fortune 500 company. Only those with corporate consolidations experience will be considered at this time. Exposure to the P&C insurance industry and NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles is beneficial but not required.

About the Company:

Nationally recognized financial services group with a longstanding track record of delivering insurance and risk management solutions to the property and casualty markets. Committed to disciplined, long-term growth strategies that make the business one of the most respected names in the industry.

Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance department's periodic closing cycles and regulatory reporting. This includes preparing financial documents in alignment with both GAAP and statutory accounting requirements. This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and experience handling diverse accounting activities on a recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The role provides meaningful exposure to public company and insurance-based accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate precise and timely financial reporting packages, including balance sheet and income statement fluctuation reviews.

  • Assist in company-wide financial consolidation during quarter-end close.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger data through journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and vendor payment processing.

  • Create and update claims development analyses to support reserving practices.

  • Support the year-end audit cycle, including preparing financial disclosures and working directly with auditors.

  • Engage in other accounting or finance-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • A four-year degree in Accounting.

  • At least three years of professional experience in an accounting role; familiarity with insurance or financial reporting standards is advantageous.

  • Background or exposure to insurance regulatory accounting is helpful but not required.

  • Able to map out processes from beginning to end, with a willingness to seek clarity where needed.

  • Demonstrates initiative when identifying areas for improvement and is comfortable proposing process enhancements.

  • High-level competency in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.

  • Familiarity with internal control standards and financial reporting.
